The bulls have held ground for much of the day but appear to be getting weaker as we head into the afternoon session.

The Dow is up 25 points to 12,226 after hitting an intraday high of 12,249.  The S&P 500 is up 2 points to 1,306 while the Nasdaq is lower by 4 points to 2,731.

We mentioned earnings kicked into second gear this week and here is a look at the companies reporting earnings after the close today:

Cree (CREE, $40.67, down $0.40), Intel (INTC, $19.79, up $0.17), International Business Machines (IBM, $164.65, down $1.29), Juniper Networks (JNPR, $38.03, down $0.23), Massey Energy (MEE, $63.54, down $0.34), VMware (VMW, $84.14, down $2.36) and Yahoo (YHOO, $16.22, down $0.13).

If you think that group was impressive, here are the names stepping up to the plate before Wednesday’s open:

American Express (AXP, $45.91, down $0.15), Apple (AAPL, $333.43, up $1.58), American Grill (CMG, $280.70, down $2.67), E*Trade Financial (ETFC, $15.82, up $0.12), F5 Networks (FFIV, $92.70, down $0.83), Qualcomm (QCOM, $53.20, down $0.09), Western Digital (WDC, $38.44, down $0.23) and Yum Brands (YUM, $50.23, down $0.15).
