On 11/11/10 we sold the December 40 call option for $1.75 which lowered our cost basis to $38.91.  If the stock gets “called away” from us by mid-December then we make 3% in 3 months.

Other 2010 Portfolio OPEN positions (3):  These are trades that are still open in the portfolio that have longer expiration dates or are on “hold” but are not worth mentioning until they turn around.  We are still keeping track of the trade and we will record the results, accordingly, when we close them or the options expire.  Click on the 2010 Portfolio link in the Members Area to view ALL open/ closed trades.

Note:  The November options expire today.  The Intel calls returned us 42% but went on to gain but ended up making 180% which would have made the strangle trade profitable.  We will certainly be taking another look at TiVo and Biodel will remain open.

Intel November 18 puts (strangle trade from October)

Biodel March 7.50 calls (from October)

TiVo November 12 calls (from August)

These trades are NOT recommendations until we send out an alert.  These are trades that we like but have not added to the portfolio as an official recommendation because of market conditions or because we are waiting for better entry prices.  We will not list entry prices because these stocks are on the verge of breaking out or they could sell-off.

THQ (THQI, $4.81, up $0.44)

December 5 calls (THQI101218C00005000, $0.15, up $0.10)

March 5 calls (THQI110319C00005000, $0.55, up $0.25)

Action:  We found our “sticky note’ that reminded us to watch THQ, a maker a video games and devices, because we knew the debut of their uDraw was going to be a hit for the Nintendo Wii.

Shares soared 10% yesterday on indication the gadget will be a monster hit.  Of course, we are on the fence with this one because shares are under $5.  We listed the options and we like the March 5 calls more as we think the company could get a buyout offer but buying the stock is the safer bet.

Cisco Systems (CSCO, $19.61, up $0.20)

Action:  We are looking at Cisco as a covered call trade.

Foster Wheeler (FWLT, $28.60, up $1.21)
