9:00am (EST) Futures are pointing towards a big open at the start of today’s trading after Alcoa (AA, $14.20, up $0.31) reported a 3Q profit after the bell on Wednesday. Wall Street had expected another quarterly loss but Alcoa surprised everyone and pulled earnings of $77 million, or $0.08 a share, out of its hat. Before the bell, the stock is up another 87 cents, to $15.07. The bullish news is lifting the Dow futures by 88 points and Alcoa is one of the 30 stocks that make up the Dow. S&P 500 futures are up 12 while the Nasdaq 100 futures are soaring 16 points this morning. Pepsico (PEP, $61.17, up $0.30) reported a higher-than-expected quarterly profit on this morning, helped by increased sales volumes of snacks and beverages. The company said it earned $1.72 billion, or $1.08 per share, versus $1.58 billion, or $0.99 a share, a year earlier. Wall Street was expecting $1.03 a share. Revenue fell 1.5% to $11.1 billion. I’m showing a pre-market bid of $62.25 so we should be good to go. Subscribers, check the Members Area for the trade updates, including Pepsico.]]>
